Spinach Moong Dal Mash

Spinach Moong Dal Mash

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp yellow moong dal
  • 5-6 spinach leaves
  • 2 tbsp rice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp ghee
  • Tiny pinch jeera powder

Method

  1. Wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly.
  2. Wash the spinach leaves well and chop finely.
  3. Add the rice, dal, spinach, and water to a pressure cooker.
  4. Cook for 4 whistles until very soft.
  5. Mash until smooth for younger babies.
  6. Add ghee and jeera powder.
  7. Mix well and serve warm.

Texture tip

  • 7-8 months: Blend until smooth if needed.
  • 8-9 months: Mash lightly with soft spinach pieces.

Nutritionist note

Jeera has traditionally been used in small amounts in Indian cooking to add flavor and aroma.

Pair this meal with a fruit rich in vitamin C later in the day to support iron absorption as part of a balanced diet.
