Millet Carrot Porridge

Millet Carrot Porridge

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp foxtail millet
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) water
  • 4 tbsp steamed and mashed carrot
  • 1/2 tsp ghee
  • Tiny pinch jeera powder (optional)

Method

  1. Wash the foxtail millet thoroughly under running water.
  2. Soak the millet for 30 minutes (optional but recommended).
  3. Drain and rinse once again.
  4. Add the millet and fresh water to a pressure cooker.
  5. Cook for 4-5 whistles until very soft.
  6. Steam the carrot until soft and mash until smooth.
  7. Add the mashed carrot to the cooked millet.
  8. Cook together for another 1-2 minutes.
  9. Stir in ghee and jeera powder, if using.
  10. Serve warm.

Texture tip

  • 8-9 months: Blend until smooth if needed.
  • 9-12 months: Mash lightly with soft millet grains.

Foxtail millet provides slow-release energy and is naturally rich in several essential minerals.

Parent tip

For younger babies, cook the millet a little longer to achieve a softer, creamier consistency before serving.
