Little Millet White Urad Dal Porridge
A soft grain recipe with oats, makhana, or millet for nourishing 8m+ routines.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp little millet
- 1 tbsp white urad dal (split and skinned)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 tsp ghee
- Tiny pinch jeera powder (optional)
Method
- Wash the little millet and white urad dal thoroughly.
- Soak them overnight or for at least 6-8 hours.
- Drain and rinse once again.
- Add the soaked millet, urad dal, and fresh water to a pressure cooker.
- Cook for 4-5 whistles until very soft.
- Mash well using the back of a spoon.
- Blend lightly for younger babies if needed.
- Add warm water if the porridge is too thick.
- Stir in ghee and jeera powder if using.
- Serve warm.
Texture tip
- 8-9 months: Blend until smooth if needed.
- 9-12 months: Mash lightly with very soft grains.

Soaking millets and dals before cooking helps soften them and may make them easier to digest.
Parent tip
You can add mashed vegetables like pumpkin or carrot after cooking to introduce new flavors and nutrients.
