Chicken Rice Dal Mash

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp raw boneless chicken, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp rice
  • 1 tbsp yellow moong dal
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) water
  • 1/2 tsp ghee
  • Tiny pinch jeera powder

Method

  1. Wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly.
  2. Without rinsing the raw chicken, cut it into very small pieces on a separate board.
  3. Add the rice, moong dal, chicken, and water to a pressure cooker.
  4. Cook for 4-5 whistles until everything is very soft.
  5. Mash well using the back of a spoon.
  6. Stir in ghee and jeera powder.
  7. Adjust the consistency with warm water if needed.
  8. Serve warm.

Texture tip

  • 8-9 months: Mash until smooth with tiny chicken pieces.
  • 9-12 months: Leave soft shredded chicken pieces.

Nutritionist note

Chicken provides heme iron, which is absorbed more easily than plant-based iron.

Parent tip

Cook the chicken thoroughly, then mash or shred it finely for easier chewing.

Allergen note

Contains or may include: Milk. Check every packaged ingredient label and follow your child’s allergy plan. Cook chicken to 74°C (165°F). Do not rinse raw poultry, and keep its juices away from other foods and utensils.

Parent note: introduce new foods one at a time, adjust texture for your baby’s readiness, and check with your pediatrician for allergies, medical conditions, or feeding concerns. Seat your child upright and supervise closely throughout every meal.
