Chicken Rice Dal Mash
A soft protein-rich chicken rice dal mash for babies ready for more family-style meals.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp raw boneless chicken, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp rice
- 1 tbsp yellow moong dal
- 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) water
- 1/2 tsp ghee
- Tiny pinch jeera powder
Method
- Wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly.
- Without rinsing the raw chicken, cut it into very small pieces on a separate board.
- Add the rice, moong dal, chicken, and water to a pressure cooker.
- Cook for 4-5 whistles until everything is very soft.
- Mash well using the back of a spoon.
- Stir in ghee and jeera powder.
- Adjust the consistency with warm water if needed.
- Serve warm.
Texture tip
- 8-9 months: Mash until smooth with tiny chicken pieces.
- 9-12 months: Leave soft shredded chicken pieces.
Nutritionist note
Chicken provides heme iron, which is absorbed more easily than plant-based iron.
Parent tip
Cook the chicken thoroughly, then mash or shred it finely for easier chewing.
